City of Cheney Public Works
Cheney, Eastern WA 99004
The Objective of the Cheney Well Five Rehabilitation Project is to improve and enhance the efficiency of this well through rehabilitation of the well’s mechanical components. Cheney Well Five is located at 1 South Presley Drive. The well is utilized 5-8 months of the year to provide water to the distribution system for the entire city. This well has consistently produced a very desirable quality of water with a minimum amount of major maintenance. Well Five is capable of producing approximately 500+ gallons per minute however in the last few years pump efficiency has fallen and is currently producing about 400+ gallons per minute. Well Five currently utilizes a 250 horse power, 460 volt, US motor on top of a 682 foot deep pump consisting of 8 inch diameter columns and a 1 ½ inch shaft. Well Five is approximately 2134 feet deep. The "pump house" utilizes a large removable roof hatch for utility crane access for pulling and installing the pump. The Well Five Pump Rehabilitation Project will entail removal of the motor and pump from the well and structure, cleaning of shafts and columns, disassembling and inspecting and repairing of the bowls, and reinstallation of the pump and motor into the well. Well Five must be operational by March 31, 2017.
